 DRESS CODE POLICY

Standards for all students:

Students will wear:

  • Clothing with a moderately loose fit, avoiding extremes of “baggy” (defined as more than 4” of material at the leg) clothing or “skintight” clothing.
  • All clothing must be free of pictures, logos, and writing.  An exception to this rule will be clothing with any Good Shepherd logo or sweatshirts and T-shirts from special school field trips or functions.
  • Casual shoes which must have at least a heel strap.  Shoes with built-in wheels and open, non-tied sandals are not permitted.
  • Shorts or any type of clothing (skirts, dresses, etc.) no more than 4” above the knee, including any slits.  This standard is for male and female students.
  • Tops which cover the shoulder with a minimum of 2” of material.  The waist shall be covered at all times even when arms are raised over the head.  All shirts must either have a collar or a crew (T-shirt) neckline.
  • Athletic shoes during physical education class.

Students will not:

  • Wear excessive amounts of jewelry.
  • Apply excessive amounts of makeup.
  • Have unusual colors or styles of hair.
  • Wear jewelry (except for post or small hoop earrings) during P.E. class.

It is expected that Good Shepherd students will comply with the spirit of the dress code at all extra-curricular events unless otherwise noted.

DRESS CODE ENFORCEMENT

GoodShepherdLutheranSchool reserves the right to make the final judgment in regard to dress.  Parental support and review before a student leaves is an important aspect of meeting dress code standards.

Repeated violations of dress code in a school year will result in detentions, suspensions and/or expulsions.  Students whose clothing does not meet standards at an extracurricular activity may be asked to leave.

Dress code violations are cumulative for each semester.

1st violation:  A call will be made to the parent to bring proper attire and the student will not participate in class activities until appropriately attired.  Under certain circumstances, the school may provide alternative clothing for the day.
2nd violation:  A call will be made to the parent to bring proper attire AND a 30 minute detention will be assigned for the next school day.  Under certain circumstances, the school may provide alternative clothing for the day.
3rd violation:  A call will be made to the parent to bring proper attire AND a 45 minute detention will be assigned for the next two school days.  Under certain circumstances, the school may provide alternative clothing for the day.
4th violation:  A call will be made to the parent AND the student will be suspended for the day.  The student will be required to complete assignments and the maximum grade on this work will be 50%.  The student AND the parent will be required to attend a conference with the principal before being allowed back in class.
